ARTS OF FASHION 2008 – SF UNDER CREATIVE FASHION’S INFLUENCE

The International Fashion Student Competition takes over the SFMOMA

SAN FRANCISCO – The Arts of Fashion 2008 will bring an international collection of fashion, art, ideas, and talents to San Francisco on October 25-29 at the Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) while the De Young Museum prepares the Nov. 1 public opening of the first retrospective covering Yves Saint Laurent’s 40 years of creativity.
The Arts of Fashion Foundation invites the public to an exciting mix of debates, seminars, and presentations of collections including three New York based rising talents participating in the Debut Series: Akarasun Seanglai, Stephanie Otto and Natallia Pilipenka and three rising stars featured in the CarteBlanche Series: Cathy Pill – International Talent Support Award 2003, Maison YSL 2005 sponsorship – invited to Paris as part of the official Haute Couture calendar

In addition, the main focus of the event will be the entries by 68 fashion students selected for the final from 79 different fashion Schools and Universities from 23 different countries. These designers will present their creations related to this year's theme ‘Influence’ in the frame of a unique fashion show and display at the SFMOMA on Wed. October 29.
Students selected by the professional international jury in San Francisco will be awarded with internships in prestigious and creative Fashion Houses such as as Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Anne-Valerie Hash and Natalia Brilli in Paris, Veronique Branquinho in Antwerp and Wendy&Jim in Vienna. Different scholarships will be offered with the Schools of the Chambre Syndicale and Duperre Applied Arts School - Paris, as well as the La Cambre School of Visual Arts - Brussels.

The Arts of Fashion Foundation’s prestigious MasterClass-Series will begin its fourth rendition on Oct. 25 to Oct. 29. The Series is a great opportunity for students and young professionals to work with outstanding guest designers during 5 intensive days. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that the work done during the intensive five day MasterClass-Series will also be presented during the Fashion Show at the SFMOMA.

The Arts of Fashion Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization linking both academics and professionals alike and is dedicated in fostering international cultural exchange through the creation of a variety of events meant to facilitate critical thinking among artists, designers, scholars and students.
The primary focus of the foundation is the continuous support of creativity and design in fashion and the arts linked to it.
